The Warriors’ coaching search officially began Thursday, a day after Keith Smart was informed that his services wouldn’t be retained for the 2011-12 season.
But not so fast. There’s plenty more in the works before they get to that.
Team sources said more movement among the Warriors’ staff is expected as soon as today, and general manager Larry Riley reiterated that a head coaching move alone won’t be enough to turn the franchise into a playoff contender.

76ers swingman Andre Iguodala said he did not "skip" his exit
interview today at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he
was attending a team doctor’s appointment. Iguodala was present for the
team meeting and media availability, at which point the individual
players were scheduled to meet with coach Doug Collins. Iguodala had a
previously scheduled doctor’s appointment, as do all players who battle
injuries throughout the year. Iguodala suffered both right knee and

Colangelo spent Monday pointing out, among many things, that no
Raptor is untradeable. And just in case you were worried he was sinking
Bargnani’s value in the process — well, Colangelo made the salesman’s
point, too, that Bargnani remains both a “matchup nightmare” and an
unknown quantity, since he has yet to be paired with a legitimately

Bryan Colangelo made it clear this week when he sat down with Toronto
hoop scribes that A) he wants to keep running the Raptors and B) he
doesn’t know if his current bosses plan to keep him in power much
longer.
The matter is muddled by the fact that Colangelo’s bosses are
planning to put majority control of the team up for sale … which could
actually wind up helping Colangelo if his staunchest supporter –-
current Raptors governor Larry Tanenbaum –- is still part of the
Raptors’ upper-management structure after the sale.

The new regime running the Warriors knows what it wants in a head coach.It’s not Keith Smart.The
Warriors informed Smart on Wednesday that he wouldn’t be retained as
their coach. Now in the market for their third coach in three years, the
Warriors want one who is going to be around a few years and can develop
young talent, said Larry Riley, the team’s head of basketball
operations. They also want a coach with a vision on how to get this team
into the playoffs, an event the Warriors have missed for 16 of the past
17 seasons.

The Knicks decision to retain Chauncey Billups at a steep price could
be an indication that Donnie Walsh is starting to regain his power
within the organization.
Walsh, who is in talks with Garden chairman James Dolan about a
contract extension, announced Wednesday that the club is picking up the
option year on Billups’ deal, worth $14.2 million. The Knicks had until
Friday to decide whether to keep Billups or buy out his contract for
approximately $4 million. The Daily News reported in February that
Billups had received a verbal guarantee from the organization that it
would keep him.
