Allen Iverson’s star power might shine in Memphis after all.
Just when it seemed as though the Grizzlies’ interest in the free-agent guard was nothing more than strong flirtation, Iverson used his Twitter account Wednesday morning to suggest that both sides are now seriously considering marriage.
In his latest entry, Iverson wrote: "Well I am about to begin another workout session. Agent informed me that Memphis made us an offer on yesterday. Stay tuned."
Griz general manager Chris Wallace said there is no deal in place but confirmed that he had meaningful talks with Iverson’s agent, Leon Rose, over the past few days.
"We have a strong level of interest in (Iverson) and we’ve made that clear to him," Wallace said. "But I’m not going to confirm or deny (Iverson’s Twitter message). … The whole thing has been ongoing since the beginning of free agency. I think it’ll reach a head over the next couple of weeks. I’d look for him to pick a team by then."
Wallace wouldn’t discuss the Grizzlies’ latest offer. Attempts to reach Rose on Wednesday were unsuccessful.
