As the middle of the month of March nears it appears that there are a rash of injuries that are effecting many teams around the NBA. Some of the teams that are effected at this present moment include the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers .

The New York Daily News is reporting that although Carmelo Anthony was back to playing ball on Monday night it is not known what the actual problem with his knee is. It is also reported that it is not known how long he will be back playing for as his knee problems which include swelling, stiffness and fluid building up in the knee could come back at any time.
Speaking of knee problems, Andrew Bynum of the Philadelphia 76ers is having his own set of problems with his knees. USA Today notes that he is at present looking into arthroscopic surgery and it is also noted that because he does not want to play in pain he may not be able to return to the 76ers lineup this season.

Sometimes with players out of the lineup it is fun to predict who is going to win the big games. If you think that you can choose the winner then check out Unibet where you get good odds on your live betting

Websites have
speculated about a possible trade that would send Evan Turner and
Spencer Hawes to Atlanta for soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Josh
Smith, but such a deal would not interest the 76ers, according to two
league sources with knowledge of the situation."Why would the Sixers be interested in making a deal for a player
who can walk at the end of the season and leave them holding nothing but
the bag?" one source said. "I don’t see where that makes sense for
them."
Although the Sixers would acquire Smith’s Larry Bird rights – meaning
they could sign him to a more lucrative deal than any other team – they
would have no guarantee that Smith would re-sign with them.
The 6-foot-9 small forward is in his ninth season with the Hawks and
in the final year of a five-year, $58 million contract. The word coming
out of Atlanta is that Smith almost certainly will not re-sign with the
Hawks.

Evans, the Sacramento Kings’ guard from Chester, said today that he is
hoping to play for Team Philly when it takes on a team put together by
Carmelo Anthony on Sept. 25 at the Palestra.

"I would love to play in the game," Evans told the Daily News today at
an appearance in Chester. "Why not? What else is there to do."

Evans has been working out this summer in Santa Monica and was scheduled to return to the West Coast prior to the game, but he will remain in the area. He said he plans to reach out to Hakim Warrick, who is helping to organize the game.

"Melo told me he was bringing a squad that can’t be beat so I have a few ‘all star’ surprises for him when my team takes the court on September 25,” Warrick said in a press release.

The Anthony team is set to include megastars LeBron James (Miami), Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City) and Chris Paul (New Orleans). The team could also include former La Salle star Gary Neal (San Antonio), Eric Bledsoe (Los Angeles Clippers), Donte Greene (Sacramento) and Josh Selby (Memphis).

Slated to be headlining the Philly team is 76ers guard Lou Williams. He is supposed to be joined by Episcopal Academy grad Wayne Ellington (Minnesota), South Jersey native Jason Thompson (Sacramento) and Friends’ Central product Hakim Warrick, now with the Suns. Former Prep Charter stars Markieff and Marcus Morris are also scheduled to appear, but the twins have a commitment at the University of Kansas the day before the Palestra game.

Iguodala is quickly falling into the same category as Scott Rolen, who
played for the Phillies from 1997-2002, before essentially getting
booed out of town.
Coming
into this season, Iguodala had missed just six games in his first six
seasons. This season, he played through a wrist injury and Achilles
injury in the first half of the season. He missed 12 games with those
injuries when he could have easily missed many more.
Then
through the final two months of the season, Iguodala played through
right knee tendinitis similar to the injury the Phillies’ Chase Utley
has dealt with this season.
Utley still hasn’t played in a game for the Phillies.

76ers swingman Andre Iguodala said he did not "skip" his exit
interview today at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he
was attending a team doctor’s appointment. Iguodala was present for the
team meeting and media availability, at which point the individual
players were scheduled to meet with coach Doug Collins. Iguodala had a
previously scheduled doctor’s appointment, as do all players who battle
injuries throughout the year. Iguodala suffered both right knee and
Achilles tendinitis.

When asked if he skipped his exit interview, Iguodala returned a text saying, "Not true. I had a team doctor’s appointment."
Sixers team president Rod Thorn confirmed that Iguodala did have an
appointment, just across the street from where exit interviews are held,
but that the team expected Iguodala to return for the exit interview.
"It’s no big deal at all," Thorn said of the situation, adding that
it was customary for players to have doctor’s appointments at season’s
end. Asked if Iguodala was to be fined or if he was in trouble, Thorn
said, "No."
"Obviously he played very well in the last game in particular," Thorn said. "Everything is fine with Iguodala."

If you watched Andre Iguodala in person, you’d see a very talented
player playing below his potential. Or if you walked into the locker
room after a game and saw a guy hunched over after yet another loss,
you’d be nearing the same conclusion: It’s time.

For proof, let’s read between the lines.

Doug Collins rarely goes a day without reiterating one simple fact: The 76ers’ coach has been brought here to evaluate talent, to decide which players are prepared for the journey ahead.

So let’s forget the team’s record, which is quite bad. Let’s forget the roster’s salary, which is quite high. Let’s forget the remaining sliver of hope which keeps some believing that by season’s end this squad – in its current incarnation – will be transformed into a playoff team.

And let’s state the truth without pump-faking or jab-stepping: The Sixers are reassembling, which is the NBA’s version of rebuilding.

You probably knew that. But there’s a chance you didn’t.

You’ve likely read the multitude of quotes from Collins commenting on his search for the right mix of guys, for the secret recipe that will produce the gourmet meal.

But when your ingredients are brown sugar and pickles, there is no gourmet meal. You might come up with a funky appetizer that a few people find interesting, but it’ll never be satisfying.

"I mean, I’m being ultra-positive. I don’t know what else I can do," Collins said after Friday’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks. "I’m ultra-positive: ‘Let’s go, let’s do our jobs,’ and stuff like that. But if we’re going to judge ourselves after nine games, I mean, I would think that that wouldn’t happen."

Collins is smart enough and in tune with this challenge that he might get the Sixers to make a push, get them to 35 wins, but this season will not be a winning one.

Which brings us back to the opening premise: It’s time.

Let’s continue reading between the lines.

Iguodala has not formally requested a trade, and the Sixers are not actively trying to deal him. There is no "For Sale" sign in front of Iguodala, but the Sixers would listen if you fell in love with the place and knocked on the door anyway.

The 76ers have contacted the Denver Nuggets about a potential trade for
star forward Carmelo Anthony, multiple NBA sources confirmed on Sunday.

The centerpiece of the Sixers’ offer is swingman Andre Iguodala,
although other players, including expiring contracts and young talent,
would be needed to convince the Nuggets to part with their franchise
player.

Anthony has only one season left on his contract and has made it clear he does not intend to re-sign with Denver, the team he joined as a rookie in 2003.

The Nuggets have offered Anthony a three-year, $65 million extension; the offer is still on the table. Iguodala agreed to a six-year, $80 million deal before the 2008-09 season; he has four years and approximately $55 million remaining on his deal.

Multiple media have reported that the Nuggets would like to have the issue resolved before the start of training camp.

One NBA source said this trade was merely in the discussion stage and that Denver would have to take the next step in pursuing the Sixers’ offer. The same source said all was quiet on Sunday evening and that the matter would be further discussed this week.

Another Western Conference source admitted that Denver has "always loved" Iguodala’s game, but cautioned that most NBA teams have inquired about Anthony. The source said there was little reason to believe the Sixers were front-runners for landing the 6-foot-8 all-star forward, who reportedly has a list of preferred destinations not including Philly.

Anthony’s desired locations reportedly include the New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, and Chicago Bulls.

While Samuel Dalembert ($12.2 million), Jason Kapono ($6.6 million) and
Willie Green ($4 million) would clear $22.8 million from the salary cap
next June, but that wouldn’t be enough to try to sign an elite player
unless they trade a long-term contract for a player whose deal expires
next summer or renounce the contracts of Thaddeus Young and Jason Smith.

The Sixers already have $66 million committed to 11 players in 2010-11, not counting the No. 2 overall pick in the June 24 draft. The cap is expected to be $56 million next season.

The Nuggets’ Carmelo Anthony could be the only young star on the open market in 2011. Yao Ming, like Anthony, would be unrestricted, but his continuing injury problems limit his value to a young team. The Thunder’s Kevin Durant will be a restricted free agent, but Oklahoma City would match any offer for him.

http://www.phillyburbs.com/opinions/blogs/intell_blogs/intell_blogs_details/article/634/2010/may/28/sixers-not-on-course-to-be-able-to-sign-top-player-in-2011.html

Thursday, but indicated there was "nothing" immediately holding up
negotiations.

As The Inquirer reported Tuesday, Stefanski pinpointed Collins last week, keeping in contact with Collins’ camp almost daily since the initial meeting May 1 and giving the impression that a deal could be signed by the end of this week.

Earlier this week, it seemed Stefanski might schedule a second round of interviews with Collins, Avery Johnson, and Sam Mitchell, the last three candidates standing in this monthlong hiring process, but other sources suggested that Stefanski had already made his recommendation to team owner Ed Snider.

The Sixers are still paying Eddie Jordan, whom Stefanski fired April 15, through the 2011-12 season – a $6 million price tag. Although Collins would command a higher salary than Jordan’s $3 million a year, those with knowledge of the situation said they believed that would not be an issue.

Collins, 58, is working the Western Conference finals as an analyst for TNT. Collins, who played for the Sixers from 1973-81, last coached in 2003 with the Washington Wizards. He previously coached the Chicago Bulls (1986-89) and Detroit Pistons (1995-98).

His NBA coaching record is 332-287.

With next month’s NBA draft approaching, Stefanski has more on his mind than hiring a coach. Like most general managers, he will be in Chicago on Thursday and Friday to scout prospects at the NBA Draft Combine.

An invitation to the combine doesn’t ensure that a player will get drafted. It is, however, a good indicator of the top prospects.

Kentucky freshman point guard John Wall, who’s projected to be the Washington Wizards’ top overall pick in the draft, will participate. So will Ohio State junior swingman Evan Turner, whom the Sixers could take with the second overall pick.

In all, 53 prospects will participate in light workouts at the Attack Athletics facility on the west side of Chicago. The combine, run by trainer Tim Glover, will have agility drills and medical testing. Players will also interview with teams.

The 76ers’ coaching search, which is more than a month old and has
dwindled to only a handful of candidates, has a distinct front-runner:
Collins.

According to multiple sources, Collins is the leading candidate, ahead
of former Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson and former Toronto
Raptors coach Sam Mitchell, although it’s possible that Ed Stefanski,
the Sixers’ president and general manager, will schedule a second round
of interviews.

One source close to Collins said his camp has been given the impression that the job is his, expressing the belief that Stefanski already has made his recommendation to Ed Snider, chairman of the team’s parent company, Comcast-Spectacor.

The only thing separating Collins from the job offer, according to the source, is the logistics of timing and due diligence by Stefanski.

The source said it wouldn’t be impossible to see a job offer before the end of this week.

Collins, 58, is covering the NBA’s Western Conference finals as an analyst for TNT. (The series is his final commitment with the network.) The Flyers, also under the Comcast-Spectacor banner, are in the NHL’s Eastern Conference finals.

A second source confirmed that Collins was the definitive front-runner for the Sixers’ coaching vacancy but said second interviews were still likely to begin this week.

Since interviewing Collins on May 1, Stefanski has contacted Collins’ camp at least every other day, as reported last week in The Inquirer. It was this show of good faith that kept Collins involved in the drawn-out search, which he would have abandoned if he had not been kept informed consistently.

Stefanski has interviewed seven candidates for the team’s coaching vacancy. Eddie Jordan was fired April 15, less than 24 hours after his finished his only season with a 27-55 record.

In the weeks following Jordan’s dismissal, Stefanski interviewed Collins, then Johnson, Mitchell and a quartet of NBA assistant coaches in Bill Laimbeer, Dan Majerle, Monty Williams, and Elston Turner.

The source said that Collins would consider only two NBA coaching vacancies: with the Sixers, for whom he played from 1973 to ’81, and with the Chicago Bulls, whom he coached from 1986 to ’89.

Johnson, also thought to be a legitimate option for the Sixers, interviewed Monday for the Atlanta Hawks’ coaching vacancy and is said to be leaning toward the New Orleans Hornets’ opening. Johnson is a New Orleans native.

An NBA head coaching job recently opened in Atlanta and could open in Cleveland.

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20100518_76ers_said_to_be_favoring_Collins.html#ixzz0oH8B71TK
