Everyone listen close now: This man bleeds green! While Kevin Garnett was emphatic in the days leading up to the NBA trade deadline that he did not want to play for anyone but Boston, that didn’t keep other teams from trying to make a move for him. That included the Clippers, who were among the prime trade partners, with Eric Bledsoe and DeAndre Jordan reportedly on the block in exchange for Garnett.

The catch was that Garnett repeatedly refused to waive his no-trade clause, insisting that he came back to the NBA only to play for the Celtics, and that he planned to retire in Boston. Reports now show that his stance stood firm even as the Clippers went to even greater lengths to try to acquire him. Chris Paul had the ear of Clippers management and told Garnett he could make the deal happen if Garnett wanted the trade, Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald reports. But Garnett turned down the extra attention from Paul, and the Celtics moved neither Garnett nor mainstay Paul Pierce before the deadline. While earlier reports have indicated that Paul was involved in bending management’s ear in Los Angeles, it’s another issue entirely that the All-Star point guard made a direct plea to Garnett. In the end, though, he heard what everybody has heard in recent days: Garnett will be staying with the Celtics.

Rajon Rondo is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, but apparently that won’t stop the Celtics from moving their point guard — if they can somehow find a deal they like. That probably won’t be easy, but ESPN’s Chris Broussard reports (via Twitter) that the Celtics would trade their injured point guard if they were able to find the “right trade.” What exactly that means at this point is still unknown. Celtics president Danny Ainge has said that the club probably won’t make any big deals before the deadline, but Boston keeps popping up in reported trade discussions, reportedly involving players like Rondo, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Perhaps the Celtics would look to move Rondo as part of a huge, franchise-altering overhaul.

The Celtics are still reportedly interested in swinging a deal with the Clippers that would send Garnett to Los Angeles. If that were to happen, the C’s are reportedly hoping to acquire Clippers point guard Eric Bledsoe in return. Acquiring Bledsoe may also make Rondo expendable, which might explain their reported willingness to move Rondo. However, Rondo’s health is now a concern, with him not set to return until training camp next year. It’s not often you see a player a month removed from knee surgery moved at the trade deadline, but Ainge has been able to pull off some wild deals since taking over, so presumably nothing is out of the question.

The Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets have discussed a trade for Celtics star Paul Pierce, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Nets’ willingness to a deal centered on forward Kris Humphries, guard MarShon Brooks and a first-round draft pick, but the Celtics want a more substantial package to consider moving Pierce, league sources said.

“The Celtics still highly value Pierce and it wouldn’t make sense to trade him for that kind of a package if they’re keeping Kevin Garnett,” one league source said.

Boston has shown interest in forward Mirza Teletovic and securing another possible first-round pick, but the Nets have shown no inclination to pay that steep of a price for Pierce.

The Nets and Celtics discussed a deal for Pierce at the 2012 trade deadline, but the Celtics decided to keep him for another playoff run. Pierce, 35, is averaging 18 points for the Celtics this season, shooting his worst from the field – 41 percent – in the past eight seasons.

Boston had interest in guard C.J. Watson in a separate deal, but Brooklyn doesn’t want to part with him, sources said.

The Celtics could be headed for a seismic shakeup, and it could be happening very soon. Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski has a nugget-filled post about the Celtics and their trading prospects with the Thursday trade deadline looming. While he reports a potential deal that would send Kevin Garnett to the Los Angeles Clippers is dead for now, it could certainly be revitalized. Interestingly, Wojnarowski reports that Chris Paul could play a leading role by going to Clippers management and pleading for the deal to get done. If the Celtics are able to unload Garnett (Wojnarowski seemed to think Garnett would waive his no-trade clause to join the Clippers), it would likely mean the end of the line for Paul Pierce in Boston. “If the Celtics trade Garnett before the deadline,” Wojnarowski wrote, “they would move Pierce, too, sources said. For the Celtics, the chance to get [Eric] Bledsoe and [DeAndre] Jordan could be a prelude to trying to package Pierce in a possible deal to the Atlanta Hawks for Josh Smith, sources said.”

While the Celtics were still awaiting final paperwork on a minor move they hope won’t turn out to be so minor (a 10-day contract for Terrence Williams), the club is still working extremely hard to find something else that will support its run over these next few months.

According to one opposing team executive, the Celtics “are one of the more active teams out there talking, but they really don’t have a lot of great options. They don’t have a lot to trade.”

It seems, too, that reports of some of the bigger Celtics names being “discussed” is more a matter of semantics than actual deep negotiation. Another source with knowledge of the two clubs told the Herald the Clippers have yet to make an actual and formal offer for Kevin Garnett. He added that the sides haven’t spoken in days.

during their late-season swoon and playoff collapse, it seems some of
you would rather see their roster hit by a trainload of TNT than watch
it again on TNT.

“Blow it up” seem to be the new Big Three words in Boston, the belief
in many corners being that the Celtics’ uniformed Big Three have begun
to shrivel. When Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce [stats]
first came together in 2007 as the prelude to the “LeBron-D-Wade and
The Other Guy” becoming the new Miami Sound Machine, the conventional
wisdom was they had a three-year window to hang new banners from the
Garden rafters.

They put one up their first year and just missed a second in their
third, but this year they ran out of gas in Games 4 and 5 of the Eastern
Conference semifinals, losing to “LeBron-D-Wade and The Other Guy” in
five games, which is a far cry from a banner performance.
Celtics general manager Danny Ainge
can say all he wants, that he felt they should be ahead 3-2 this
morning and still alive. But they weren’t and they aren’t, because the
window closed on the Celtics — and it doesn’t seem likely to open wide
enough to fit another banner anytime soon.

Glen Davis picked an inopportune time to have one of the worst
stretches of his career. Even worse, this forgettable postseason may be
Davis’ final memory with the Celtics [team stats].

Davis will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and clearly
intends to test the market. This postseason was not the best audition,
as Davis shot 39.1 percent and averaged 4.9 points and 3.6 rebounds.

“You just can’t base it on just this playoffs,” Davis said. “My whole
body of work, I feel like I can play in this league, I can start in
this league, from my second year when Kevin (Garnett) went down and my
third year playing in the playoffs. This year was my best year. I just
didn’t play well in the playoffs this year. I didn’t get a good rhythm.
Some things happen like that. I don’t think this playoffs hurt me as
much.”If Davis wants to start, Boston likely won’t be the destination.
Kevin Garnett will return next season at power forward and there have
been no indications from the organization that Davis is in line to be
the successor.

Despite the sour end to the year, Davis’ fourth season was his best.
He was a sixth man of the year candidate in the first half and finished
the season averaging 11.7 points and 5.4 rebounds. The 25-year-old
believes he is capable of more and is aware that opportunity may not
come with the Celtics.

“I want to be a player in this league,” Davis said. “I feel like I
have a lot more to offer. I want to show the world my talent, if it’s
here in Boston or wherever.”
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/basketball/celtics/view/2011_0512might_be_time_for_baby_to_leave_celts_nest/

The Big Question Mark played a limited, non-running role in yesterday’s practice, but your guess may be as good as that of Doc Rivers or Danny Ainge when it’s time to handicap O’Neal’s availability for Game 1 in Miami tomorrow.
The coach and the general manager both appear, at the very least, to
have more confidence that there will be a Shaq sighting at some point in
the series.I’m more confident now that he will play in the series. I don’t know
when — maybe 1, maybe 2 — but I do think he’ll play,” Rivers said before
yesterday’s practice. “It’s important. I just think it gives us another
guy with size and it gives us some more physicality, but it is what it
is.
“He can still be Shaq, because when he walks on the floor he’s
7-feet-tall-plus and he weighs what he weighs,” he said. “Out of all the
players on our team, he probably has the easiest task in being who they
are, because that’s all he can be. And that’s pretty good.
“He needs to show something tomorrow maybe and then feel better after
that,” said Rivers. “I wish I could tell you more. I have no idea, I
really don’t. My confidence comes from (trainer Ed Lacerte). Eddie walked in today and said, ‘I feel a lot better about it.’ So I feel better about it. That’s as much as I can tell you.”
