Celtics have room to maneuver now

The Celtics have 47 regular-season games remaining, starting with

when free agency begins Wednesday in forward Glen Davis, guard Stephon
Marbury, forward-centers Leon Powe and Mikki Moore, and possibly guard
Eddie House (if he opts out of his contract by Tuesday). But the
Celtics have also said they would use their mid-level exception for the
right free agent, and they have their eyes on adding one or two
frontcourt players as insurance, considering the uncertainty of Davis
and the injured Powe returning and Kevin Garnett coming off knee

Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the Boston Celtics offered the Detroit Pistons two of their best players – but it wasn’t at a very cheap price.

Marbury to join the Celtics today

The Boston Herald is reporting that it appears likely that Stephon
Marbury will join the Celtics today after clearing waivers.

buyout for Stephon Marbury and his 21 million dollar contract. It is reported that
once he clears waivers he will sign a pro rated contract with the Celtics for the
remainder of the season.

Update on Marbury from is reporting that Marbury has interest in joining
the Celtics and the Celtics have apparently expressed a verbal commitment to
him as well. While the Celtics front office is declining to speak on this issue
it is noted that any player joining the team would have to take the veterans
minimum to join the club … so it looks like if Marbury is going to join the
Celtics he will do for the veterans minimum salary.
