Lakers’ deal for Raptors star has a shot

As promised, today’s column is pure basketball, triggered by trade winds.

A Lakers source told me the team had its sights set high, as usual, and
planned to target the possible acquisition of Chris Bosh when it got
closer to the 3 p.m. Feb. 18 trade deadline, and the Raptors might be
more likely to move their Olympian/All-Star while still entitled to
compensation.

Bosh to the Heat?

Not only will the Heat’s chances of signing Chris Bosh next summer be helped if the Raptors keep struggling, but a former Raptors official said Bosh doesn’t like Toronto’s cold winters. Bosh isn’t keen on playing in his native Texas but has said the Heat “seems to be an attractive place, playing with Dwyane Wade and playing in Miami.”

Rumors from the AJC – Bosh, Smith and More

Mark Bradley of AJC reports that

Chris Bosh, you say? Now that’s a teaser. Bosh is better than Smith at
this moment, but Bosh also becomes a free agent next summer.
Bosh-for-Josh would gamble four more years of Smith for what could be
one-and-done of Bosh. Me, I wouldn’t do it. (Go ask the Braves if
they’d make the Teixeira trade again.)

BARRY JACKSON of the miamiherald.com reports that

The Heat’s interest in Chris Bosh apparently is mutual. A friend of the
Toronto power forward said Bosh has interest in playing for Miami,
which would love to add him via trade this summer or free agency in
2010.
