As rumors swirled all day Wednesday regarding possible trade destinations for New Orleans Hornets guard Eric Gordon, it seemed unlikely he would be moved by Thursday’s trading deadline because of the size of his contract and his continued absence from the court in the second of back-to-back games.
The New Orleans Hornets have acquired guard Jerryd Bayless from the
Portland Trail Blazers in a trade exchange for a future first-round
pick, league sources confirmed Saturday night.Bayless solidifies the
Hornets’ backup point guard spot before the regular season. The Hornets’
roster now stands at 16 and they have until Tuesday to meet the
league-maximum requirement 15 players. New Orleans opens the regular
season Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Bucks at the New Orleans
Bayless, 6 feet 3, 200 pounds, averaged 8.5 points and 2.3 assists in 74 games last season for the Trail Blazers
A source close to Monty Williams said he has agreed in principle to a
three-year contract with an option for a fourth year to become the New
Orleans Hornets head coach.
The source, however, said there are some contract specifics that still
have to be ironed out, but the deal could be finalized Saturday.
Former NBA point guard Mark Jackson is the next candidate the New
Orleans Hornets are expected to contact to gauge his interest in their
head coaching vacancy, according to league sources.
And according to a source close to Jackson, an ESPN/ABC analyst, he is
interested in pursuing the Hornets’ vacancy.
