The Dallas Mavericks owner said in a radio interview Friday that the Lakers should consider using their one-time amnesty provision on Bryant this summer.

Bryant has one more season and $30.5 million left on his contract. He is one of four players the Lakers can waive via the money-saving device after this season.

“We’re aware of Mark Cuban’s comments and feel they are inappropriate,” Lakers spokesman John Black said. “As to the issue itself, we will not comment publicly on the amnesty issue as it relates to any of our players.”

The Lakers will not file a formal complaint with the NBA, though the league is looking into the matter and can fine Cuban for his comments.

Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak declined to comment.

Pau Gasol ($19.3 million next season), Metta World Peace ($7.7 million) and Steve Blake ($4 million) are the other three players the Lakers can waive this summer to avoid paying luxury taxes on their salar

They then backed it up with a gritty 111-107 victory Friday over the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center.

That’s two in a row for the Lakers, reason enough to throw a victory parade in a season to dismember.

Bryant was the first to back up his boast that the Lakers would play past April 17, scoring 40 points on impressive 15-for-23 shooting.

It was enough to counteract one of Steve Nash’s worst shooting games (four points, two-for-11 accuracy) and some defensive wobbles.

Guarantees are guarantees, aren’t they? Bryant’s teammates fell in line with his assertion.

“I’m not going to sit up here and say, ‘No, we’re not going to make it,’” Dwight Howard said beforehand. “We’ve got to have faith. I believe that we’re going to turn this around and we’re going to be great.”

Kobe Bryant’s always so conservative with his views. So meek. Timid.

“It’s not a question of if we make the playoffs. We will,” Bryant told Sports Illustrated. “And when we get there, I have no fear of anyone — Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Denver … whoever. I have zero nervousness about that.”

He didn’t mention the Clippers, but that’s another story for another day.

The most repetitive, boring question of the Lakers’ season was raised again Thursday: Was their victory Wednesday the start of a trend or a momentary burst before a relapse into the same old stuff?

They clobbered the Boston Celtics, honoring late owner Jerry Buss the best way they could on an emotional, energetic night at Staples Center.

“I don’t want to get into, like, ‘Reset: Volume 6′ or whatever we’re on now,” Steve Nash said. “But we’ve just got to keep building.”

Will Dwight Howard be traded from the LA Lakers less than a
season after arriving out west from Orlando?
The star centre remains one of the most sought after players in the
league, and teams are eager to add a player with his talents to their
roster. LA has surprisingly fallen out
of playoff contention, and is in need of a change in order to have any chance
at turning the season around.
In a funny twist though with all of the talent on the Lakers team this year some columnists such as Jonathan Irwine of the Bleacher Report in his article NBA Trade Rumors: Top News for Big Men on the Block believes that the Lakers “will hold on to their prized center.” It is thought that they may want to build around him if and when Kobe retires. It will be interesting to see what shakes out with all of the Rumors in L.A. over the next several weeks.

NBA teams and fans aren’t the only ones curious about the
trade rumours. Sports bettors and
bookmakers have listed odds on the trade possibilities at many online casinos
and sportsbetting sites. One site
listing trade rumour details is Onlinecasino.org,
where insiders and gambling enthusiasts can review some of the possible deals
regarding Dwight Howard. Could one of
these predictions prove accurate?

In other Lakers news, as the team is off to their worst start in franchise history (0-3) there is a bit of speculation that coach Mike Brown may be on the hot seat if the teams loosing ways continue for much longer. Lakers have announced that Nash will be out indefinitely with a

The injury occurred in the second quarter of Wednesday night’s game in Portland against the Trail Blazers. Nash is expected to be out a minimum of a week. He will be re-examined and an update on his condition will be given at that time.

It is just the latest setback for the Lakers as their roster is looking to gel early in the season.

http://fansided.com/2012/11/03/steve-nash-out-indefinitely-with-fracture-in-left-leg/

When a small group of reporters asked him similar questions about his

The Los Angeles Lakers
have had to replace two coaching legends in the last 20 years: Phil
Jackson and Pat Riley. The only time it’s worked out well, the team
turned to Mike Dunleavy.

They’re thinking of doing the same again this time. Dunleavy was
contacted by the team this week and is said to be on the team’s current
"short list" to succeed Jackson, according to a source with knowledge of
the situation. That list also includes former Houston Rockets
coach Rick Adelman, who ESPN.com’s Marc Stein and ESPNLosAngeles.com’s
Dave McMenamin reported Thursday also would be a candidate for the
position.Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw has the public endorsement of Kobe Bryant
and is regarded as by far the strongest in-house candidate. But a
league source told ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher that Bryant would
support the hiring of Adelman if the team decided to go in that
direction. The Lakers have scheduled interviews with Shaw and fellow Lakers assistant Chuck Person, sources told Bucher.Dunleavy is currently awaiting judgment in his arbitration hearing with the Los Angeles Clippers,
who stopped paying the balance of his contract after they fired him as
general manager last year. Dunleavy earlier had resigned as coach after
going 215-326 with the Clippers.Though his recent history with
the Clippers was unsuccessful, Dunleavy is still viewed as a strong
tactician with an impressive history of postseason success. He was the
NBA Coach of the Year in 1999 with the Portland Trail Blazers. The
Lakers have always thought fondly of the job he did in replacing Riley
in 1990, leading the team to an upset over the Trail Blazers in the 1991
Western Conference finals before losing to Jackson’s Chicago Bulls in the NBA Finals. Dunleavy
has maintained a friendship with Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss and his
son, Jim Buss. As recently as last year, he watched Lakers games with
Buss from his suite at Staples Center. He also has a long history with Bryant, whom he courted and nearly convinced to join the Clippers as a free agent in 2004.
http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/news/story?id=6540897

Kobe Bryant’s(notes) face seemed to instantly boil as he was asked about the “decline” of the Los Angeles Lakers. Such talk has taken root ever since the Dallas Mavericks stunningly swept the Lakers in the second round of the playoffs, ending Los Angeles’ two-year championship reign.

He called breakup talk “nonsense” at
his exit interview with the media at the team’s practice facilities on
Wednesday, and believes the Lakers’ current core group will make another
title run next season. One of the biggest voices leading the reconstruction chorus is former
Lakers star Magic Johnson, a team vice president. He has said it is
best to blow up the team. Bryant quipped that Johnson’s “Showtime”
Lakers of the 1980s weren’t broken up when they failed to three-peat and
continued to succeed.

A disappointed Bryant called this
past season a “waste of a year.” But unless the Lakers make a major
trade, expect a similar group since all the core players are under
contract next season. General manager Mitch Kupchak echoed Bryant’s
sentiment.

“You’re not going to contend for a championship with a non-veteran
team,” Kupchak said. “With the core players we have intact I think we
can continue to contend. We may have to look to improve certain areas,
but once again that’s not something we’ve sat down and discussed yet.”
