Sixers' Speights still positive despite second injury of season
76ersBOB COONEY

Marreese Speights' season hasn't been much different than that of many other players and coaches in the organization - that is to say it has been frustrating, borderline maddening. But the second-year forward/center out of Florida has been able to keep that devilish grin present throughout the season. He is the team leader in fist-pounds and high-fives and any other sort of congratulatory demonstration he can think of.

O'Brien must go -- for the good of the bad Pacers
pacers
Bob Kravitz

Maybe Jim O'Brien is trying to get himself fired. Maybe he's gone in the tank, just as his team has done for the past few months, and is willing to take the cash for next season and move on back to Florida.

I've written it before, with a mild bit of hesitation.

Celtics hope to get shot at Michael Finley
Celtics

Mark Murphy

The Celtics have identified what is believed to be a relatively small field of potential free agents now that the deadline for player buyouts has passed.

A Celtics source confirmed yesterday the primary target is veteran swingman Michael Finley, who was bought out of his contract by San Antonio on Monday. Finley is expected to clear waivers tonight. The team also is interested, to a lesser degree, in free agent guard Larry Hughes.

 Ainge: 'No deals'
Celtics
Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Friday he has not discussed trades involving the Charlotte Bobcats or Washington Wizards.

"There is no truth to either one of those," Ainge said. "I have had conversations with a lot of teams but those have never been discussed. There are a lot of things I would like to do but I don't feel a need to do something. I am always looking to upgrade the team, if possible."

 Danny Ainge laughs off rumors
CelticsSteve Bulpett / Celtics Notebook

WASHINGTON - For what it’s worth, Danny Ainge seemed genuinely perplexed yesterday at further reports the Celtics are trying to trade Ray Allen.

The general manager laughed at a couple of the rumors and was trying to understand how some that have been knocked down from both sides continue to get play.

Celtics looking to Move ray Allen?
Celtics

Adrian Wojnarowski

Kevin Garnett still barks and bellows on the court, clasps his hands and yet the roar now rings hollow. Down the floor and back again, the Boston Celtics star drags his battered knee. He has dragged it from one season into the next, and now comes a growing sector within the organization that wonders whether Garnett should be further resting the surgically repaired knee.

Celtics have room to maneuver now
Celtics

The Celtics have 47 regular-season games remaining, starting with tonight’s visit to Atlanta, but they are thinking ahead to the playoffs. That is why they waived Lester Hudson Wednesday afternoon, opening a roster spot, just hours before taking a 112-106 overtime win over the Miami Heat.

The Celtics will doubtless add a veteran player for the playoff run, though president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said no deal is imminent.
