Jay Triano Officially New Head coach of the Raptors
The Globe and Mail is reporting that "Jay Triano has had the interim removed from his title with the Toronto Raptors.”With a three-year contract in his pocket Triano now has the distinction of being the first Canadian head coach in NBA history without the awkwardness of the interim tag he carried since taking over from Sam Mitchell 17 games into the 2008-09 season.
The deal was finalized late Sunday night and announced at the Air Canada Centre yesterday afternoon.
"Internally we talked about who was out there, who might be available and it always came back to Jay Triano," Raptors president Bryan Colangelo said in explaining why the club stayed with an interim coach who was 25-40 in his first season on an NBA bench. "…We know and understand what Jay’s thoughts and philosophies are as a head coach, and it helps when you’re completely in tune with those thoughts and that direction."
