Scattered Rumors

Jonathan Givony – Draft Express

-B.J. Mullens worked out for the Philadelphia 76ers (#17) on Sunday, and is scheduled to work out for Chicago (#16) on Tuesday. While many NBA teams we spoke with have picked up on the rumor that he may have a promise from Detroit at 15, things don’t really seem to add up here. If anything, the Pistons seem to be most interested in Earl Clark, and have reportedly told him as much, as have the Phoenix Suns, drafting 14th. On the other hand, Detroit continues to be very active in trade-talk, though, and could very well decide to move the pick, which would make all of this moot. Would Mullens really turn down his Green Room invite if he definitely knew he was going 15th? Clark on the other hand just passed up a workout with Chicago this week in order to be with his newborn baby, as he seems to be feeling very good about where’s currently at in this draft.

-Golden State appears to be exploring possibilities to improve on the defensive end in hopes of making a strong run to the playoffs next season. One trade that has reportedly been offered by the Charlotte Bobcats that may help on that front would involve packaging Kelenna Azubuike and Marco Belinelli in exchange for Raja Bell. The Warriors are pondering the offer, but would have to get Azubuike’s consent to make the trade unless they decided to wait until July 24th.

In other Warriors news, it appears that despite not having worked him out, Stephen Curry is the team’s main target should he be available with the 7th pick. Other options include Jordan Hill, Tyreke Evans and James Johnson.

-According to an NBA source, super active Minnesota Timberwolves GM David Kahn has offered Mike Miller to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Chris Kaman. The Clippers shot down that trade, but countered with Marcus Camby.

-A few players that could shake things up on draft night…Taj Gibson to Utah at 20? Wayne Ellington to Philadelphia at 17? Tyler Hansbrough to New Jersey at 11? Ty Lawson to Indiana at 13?

Yahoo Sports Rumors

Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

The Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers have discussed Vince Carter(notes) again, sources said. As financial losses mount for New Jersey’s ownership, it appears more likely that the Nets will try to move Carter and the two years and $33.6 million left on his deal. The Nets would have to take Ben Wallace(notes) and Sasha Pavlovic(notes) in return. The Spurs haven’t given up their long-standing pursuit of Carter, but a deal with San Antonio has never gained traction. … Houston Rockets guard Tracy McGrady(notes) would love a move to the Chicago Bulls, one league executive said, but Bulls GM Gar Forman has no interest. Still, the Rockets are determined to move his expiring $23 million contract. … League executives say Philadelphia 76ers forward Elton Brand(notes) and the four years and $65 million left on his contract are available. But as one Western Conference GM said: “Who’s going to take that with him missing 130 games in the past two years?” … The Rockets, Cavaliers and Blazers are interested in buying first-round picks. … Celtics guard Ray Allen(notes) has expressed a desire for a contract extension, league executives say, but that isn’t happening in Boston. … Stephon Marbury(notes) is telling friends he believes that the Celtics want to re-sign him. … The Knicks want Stephen Curry and Curry wants them, but it’s unlikely Walsh will move up from No. 8 to be sure they get him. … The Bulls are trying to move useless Jerome James(notes) and his $6.6 million contract to create more cap space to re-sign Ben Gordon(notes). If they don’t send the Nets their two first-round picks for No. 11, they’ll have to ship one of those picks to get a team to take James from them. … As teams cut costs, the advanced scout for future opponents appears to be a casualty.

KNICKS POINTING AT RUBIO

MARC BERMAN

The Knicks have not given up hope on Ricky Rubio and are still trying to interview the 18-year-old Spanish point guard phenom this week before Thursday’s NBA Draft, according to a source. Rubio will be in New York for the draft but hasn’t worked out for teams.

Rubio visited Sacramento, but did not work out.

Rumors are circulating that Rubio could fall because of the complexity of his $6 million buyout and the Kings are no lock to take him at No. 4. Rubio has sued his Spanish club and a court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow. A Spanish source said he would not be surprised if Rubio starts the preseason in Spain.

If the Kings pass, Rubio, some people in the league predict, could fall as low as eight to the Knicks, who are trying to trade up for Stephen Curry or the Spaniard.
