Lakers coach Phil Jackson a fan of Mavericks' trade, too

Count Phil Jackson among the admirers of the Mavericks trade with
Washington, but he also believes they have had some good fortune,
noting Josh Howard’s season-ending knee injury and Erick Dampier’s
dislocated finger one game after the trade.

"I don’t want to use the term, ‘Get out of jail card,’ but those guys coming from Washington, it’s great to be on a winning team when you’ve had a difficult time," Jackson said.

While Butler didn’t play Wednesday because of a reaction to medication, Jackson said the biggest benefit is the size the Mavs added since the deal with Butler, 6-7, playing shooting guard over 6-2 Jason Terry.

"It gives them a little bigger lineup and helps them defensively," Jackson said.

"When they get Dampier back, they’ll be even deeper coming off the bench with size," Kobe Bryant said on Tuesday. "It’s going to be interesting to see how they develop and how they play and how well we match up with them."
