Monty Williams agrees in principle to become the New Orleans Hornets head coach

A source close to Monty Williams said he has agreed in principle to a
three-year contract with an option for a fourth year to become the New
Orleans Hornets head coach.

The source, however, said there are some contract specifics that still
have to be ironed out, but the deal could be finalized Saturday.

Williams, 38, spent five years as an assistant with the Portland Trail Blazers but has never been a head coach prior to accepting the Hornets’ job.

The Hornets turned their attention to Williams after Boston Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau indicated he planned to pursue the vacant Chicago Bulls job, according to sources close to the situation Friday night.
