Role player might be Pistons' best bet in draft
The lack of star power in next month's NBA draft doesn't have many people excited about the Pistons' chances to select an impact player. There are some fans who would love for the Pistons to tank seasons in an effort to get the next Tim Duncan or Shaquille O'Neal, believing the star system is the only way to win in today's NBA. While many feel it would be easy to obtain a superstar, a team can't just sit around and wait until Kevin Durant or Derrick Rose falls into its lap. Many times, it's pure chance. Unless Kyrie Irving or Derrick Williams are on the board when the Pistons are up, they'll be selecting from a depleted talent field. College kids choosing to stay in school, due to the likelihood of a lockout, has made the seventh pick (the likely Pistons pick) less attractive than in previous years.

 Last hurrah for Pistons' Rip Hamilton, Ben Wallace, Tayshaun Prince?
Now the waiting begins for Tayshaun Prince. After 10 seasons with the Pistons concluded Wednesday night with a 104-100 victory over the 76ers, Prince will become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career this summer, or whenever the NBA's labor situation is resolved. And Prince, who scored 14 points Wednesday, admitted he had mixed feelings after what will likely be his Pistons swan song.

 Pistons president Joe Dumars open to making a deal

Pistons president Joe Dumars spoke with Vincent Goodwill of The Detroit News on Sunday about the upcoming season. Though he could not address the sale of the franchise because of ongoing negotiations, Dumars touched on a number of subjects, including trades, expectations and payroll.

Goodwill: At the end of last season, you said you intended to be busy with the trade market. That didn't happen, so how satisfied are you with where your roster stands now?

 McGrady, Pistons agree to one-year deal


The Detroit Pistons have some work to do with their roster after agreeing to terms Tuesday morning with free agent forward Tracy McGrady on a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum of $1.35 million.

A league source indicated Tuesday that the Pistons will work to "un-jam the log jam" the team now has at the shooting guard and small forward spots after signing the 31-year-old McGrady, who has been working out for several teams this summer looking for a home, including Chicago and Cleveland.
