Sixers Notes: Iverson sits, status unsure for tonight

Allen Iverson did not play last night against the Boston Celtics and he
may – or may not – play tonight against the Los Angeles Clippers.

76ers coach Eddie Jordan appeared to think his starting guard would be
in street clothes tonight against the Clippers, although a few minutes
later a Sixers official clarified Iverson’s status.

The Sixers played the Celtics last night, they play the Clippers tonight, the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, and visit the Utah Jazz next Saturday.

Iverson, 34, missed last night’s game with arthritis in his left knee. He’s also battling a stress reaction in his right fibula and a contusion in his left shoulder.

In his first five games with the Sixers, after not having played for more than a month, Iverson played 34.4 minutes a game.

"We think for certain he’ll be ready by the end of next week, maybe by Washington, but not [tonight]," Jordan said last night. "He’s been really battling some issues. We think he’ll be really, really healthy by next week."

Previous updates on Iverson had him playing tonight, so Jordan’s statement appeared to change Iverson’s status. A few minutes later, a Sixers official clarified that Iverson will be evaluated today by Dr. Jack McPhilemy.

"He will be looked at tomorrow. There is certainly a possibility he could be out until Utah; it depends on what Dr. Jack and how Iverson feels tomorrow. Is there a possibility he plays tomorrow? Yes, depending on how he feels. However, if he’s not responding well, there is the thought process we hold him out [tonight] and Tuesday and let him get an extra week rest and then bring him back for Utah."
