Josh Smith deal would not interest 76ers, sources say

Websites have
speculated about a possible trade that would send Evan Turner and
Spencer Hawes to Atlanta for soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Josh
Smith, but such a deal would not interest the 76ers, according to two
league sources with knowledge of the situation."Why would the Sixers be interested in making a deal for a player
who can walk at the end of the season and leave them holding nothing but
the bag?" one source said. "I don’t see where that makes sense for
them."
Although the Sixers would acquire Smith’s Larry Bird rights – meaning
they could sign him to a more lucrative deal than any other team – they
would have no guarantee that Smith would re-sign with them.
The 6-foot-9 small forward is in his ninth season with the Hawks and
in the final year of a five-year, $58 million contract. The word coming
out of Atlanta is that Smith almost certainly will not re-sign with the
Hawks.

Will Dwight Howard be traded from the LA Lakers less than a
season after arriving out west from Orlando?
The star centre remains one of the most sought after players in the
league, and teams are eager to add a player with his talents to their
roster. LA has surprisingly fallen out
of playoff contention, and is in need of a change in order to have any chance
at turning the season around.
In a funny twist though with all of the talent on the Lakers team this year some columnists such as Jonathan Irwine of the Bleacher Report in his article NBA Trade Rumors: Top News for Big Men on the Block believes that the Lakers “will hold on to their prized center.” It is thought that they may want to build around him if and when Kobe retires. It will be interesting to see what shakes out with all of the Rumors in L.A. over the next several weeks.

Report: Spurs interested in Greg Oden

Fresh off their training camp flirtation with Eddy Curry, the Spurs are reportedly pondering another reclamation project.
Fox Sport’s Sam Amico, AKA Greg Oden’s personal publicist, reports that the Spurs are among a handful of teams interested in the No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft, whose agent is “100 percent sure” he’ll be back in the NBA by next season.
“”He’s rehabbing and doing very well,” Oden’s agent, Michael Conley Sr., told Amico.
Amrico reports that Cleveland, Atlanta and Memphis are rumored to
have already worked the 7-foot center out. Milwaukee, Chicago, Golden
State and the Spurs were also mentioned as having interest. An
additional report by ESPN.com listed Dallas among the potential
candidates.

CARTER SAYS HE'D BE OPEN TO REJOINING RAPTORS AT SOME POINT

Former Toronto Raptor and current Dallas Maverick Vince Carter was on TSN Radio 1050 on Tuesday, and revealed that he would be more than open to a reunion with the Raptors at some point in his career.

"If (Toronto) gave me the opportunity, I don’t even think I’d let them finish the question. Yes. I’m in," Carter said, speaking on Cybulski and Company.

"Could I see it? Absolutely," Carter continued. "I’d leave that up to the franchise. It all started in Toronto, I’d be a fool to ever forget that."

Carter also used the opportunity to dispel longstanding rumours that he disliked the city and his time with the Raptors.

"The
one thing I want people to know is that, they think that I care less
about my time there or don’t care about Toronto at all. Not the case at
all.

"I still feel a part of the family. Maybe it’s not
reciprocated, but nevertheless, that’s where it all started for me. You
always remember your first."

Carter spent the first six years of
his career with the Raptors before being traded to the New Jersey Nets
amidst reports that he wanted out of Toronto. During his time with the
team, the former fifth-overall draft pick played in four All-Star Games,
won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2000, and was named the 1998-99 Rookie of
the Year.

Los Angeles
newcomer Steve Nash will be out of action for the upcoming future after he sustained
what is being called a small fracture of his left fibula. It is being
speculated that he will be out of action for at least a week and that he will
miss games against Detroit, Utah
and Golden State.

Nash will be reevaluated later this week and at that time his team doctors will make a decision on a return to action date. It is hoped that he will be able to return to action next week as it will be an exciting game to watch Nash take on his former team, the Phoenix Suns. In fact, that game next week when the Lakers will take on the Suns would be a fun game to bet on at

In other Lakers news, as the team is off to their worst start in franchise history (0-3) there is a bit of speculation that coach Mike Brown may be on the hot seat if the teams loosing ways continue for much longer. At present what is keeping Brown employed is the fact that team superstars Kobe Bryant who is nursing a leg injury and Dwight Howard who back is not still 100% are playing injured.

Once the players get back to 100% if the team has not made a significant turn around you would have to think that Mike Browns days as coach could be numbered.

Steve Nash Out Indefinitely With Fracture In Left Leg

The Los Angeles Lakers were hoping that point guard Steve Nash would be a
big part of the team moving forward, however, it looks like the star
could be out of action indefinitely. Unfortunately for the team, the
Lakers have announced that Nash will be out indefinitely with a
non-displaced fracture in his left leg. Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash was examined by team doctor Steve Lombardo and had an MRI exam. Results of the MRI showed a small non-displaced fracture in the head of his fibula (left leg).

The injury occurred in the second quarter of Wednesday night’s game in Portland against the Trail Blazers. Nash is expected to be out a minimum of a week. He will be re-examined and an update on his condition will be given at that time.

It is just the latest setback for the Lakers as their roster is looking to gel early in the season.

Tracy McGrady finalizing deal to play in China

After 15 often
spectacular seasons in the NBA, Tracy McGrady is finalizing agreement on
a one-year contract with Qingdao of the Chinese Basketball Association,
sources told Yahoo! Sports.

McGrady, a seven-time All-Star,
couldn’t secure a guaranteed NBA contract for this season and decided
against trying to make a roster in training camp.

McGrady, 33, will likely complete the deal within the next couple days and leave for China within the next one to two weeks, sources said. McGrady’s long-time partnership with former Houston Rockets center Yao Ming made McGrady a popular player in China, and he’ll be afforded star status there.

McGrady worked out for the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks in the past month, but neither franchise had a roster spot to commit to him. After 15 years in the league, McGrady had career-low numbers in Atlanta a season ago, averaging 5.3 points in 16 minutes per game. McGrady has been slowed with knee problems in recent years.

The Chinese season ends in March, allowing McGrady to return to the United States and possibly sign with an NBA playoff contender.

NBA to end lockout; games would start Christmas Day

Early this morning, NBA fans received their first Christmas gift: a tentative agreement to end the 149-day lockout.

One final, 15-hour marathon negotiating session brought together the final elements of a new collective bargaining agreement that fans have been yearning for since owners locked out the players July 1.

The deal will allow the league to begin its season on Christmas Day, with the season’s first tipoff to take place at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks will play the Celtics at noon.

That game is part of a cross-country tripleheader that will include
Miami at Dallas in an NBA Finals rematch before MVP Derrick Rose and
Chicago close the day by facing off against Kobe Bryant and the Los
Angeles Lakers.

“Well, we’ve reached a tentative understanding that is subject to a
variety of approvals and very complex machinations, but we’re optimistic
that will all come to pass, and that the NBA season will begin on Dec.
25,” Stern said at a press conference that began at 3:40 a.m. Saturday.

“We’re very pleased to come this far. There is still a lot of work to be
done. There’s a lot of places with a lot of committees and player
groups and the like, but we’re optimistic that it will hold, and we’ll
have ourselves an NBA season.”

What can Mike Brown do for the Lakers?

People laugh when Mike Brown tells them he spends most weekdays in his office at the Lakers’ training facility in El Segundo. They wonder what he does there, day after day while the NBA lockout drags on and on, with the 2011-12 season in jeopardy.

"Sometimes I tell people I still go to the office every day and they’re,
like, `Right, what are you trying to do, get a raise before you even
coach a game?"’ Brown said, smiling as he related the story the other
day.

"Nah, it’s fun."

When a small group of reporters asked him similar questions about his
workdays, Brown excused himself from the table in an upstairs conference
room and went to his office to retrieve a couple of three-ring binders
filled with Xs and Os.
